In older versions of Perl, it was common to find the html help files in the Perl installation path. This was good for “offline” script development.
Just installed v5.28.1 and I don’t see the help files anywhere. Did I miss a step during the install?
[I did find perldoc, but I liked the html for easier navigation - search and scroll.]
There are no HTML manuals in a normal build because the content of the build isn’t known in time for the HTML version of the manuals to be generated and included.
The old installer generation process required a build to exist before it’s contents were known and could be documented. That’s a circular dependency of a build on itself, and automated systems don’t handle that well.
There have been feature requests to make something available for offline use cases, and that is under consideration.
