What version of Komodo will work with my Mac with an Intel processor?

OS: OS X Tiger ( PowerPC / Intel ) | Product: Komodo | tags: intel komodo osx
Question:

What version of Komodo will work with my Mac with an Intel processor?

Answer:

The first version of Komodo to be built natively for Intel Macs was Komodo 3.5.3. Versions before this version were built specifically for PowerPC-based Macs. It may be possible to run the PowerPC version on the Intel Macs, taking advantage of the PowerPC emulation layer in OS X; however, this tends to be quite slow. Therefore, we recommend only using the Intel-specific builds of Komodo 3.5.3 or higher on an Intel Mac.

For each build of Komodo 3.5.3 and higher there are two files. One file specifies macosx-powerpc, and is of course the build for PowerPC-based Mac OS X systems. The other file specifies macosx-x86, and is the correct package to install on your Intel Mac.

What version of ActivePerl will work with my Mac with an Intel processor?

Question:

What version of ActivePerl will work with my Mac with an Intel processor?

Answer:

ActivePerl 5.8.8.817 and above are built as Universal binaries for Mac OS X, meaning that it will run efficiently on both Intel and PowerPC architecture Macs. Versions before 5.8.8.817 were built for PowerPC only. These versions will usually run on an Intel Mac, but will use the PowerPC compatibility layer in OS X, and will run fairly slowly. Therefore, we recommend using 5.8.8.817 or above if your Mac has an Intel CPU.
