Usability Issue - Closing a tab

Posted by lsemel on 2009-10-15 17:41
OS: All / Any

When you close a tab, you should be returned to the previous tab you were editing, rather than the rightmost open tab, which is the current behavior.

The situation is, you are editing a file, and you briefly open another file to check something or copy something. Then you close the new file, and instead of being back where you were, you're in a totally different file and have to hunt through all the open tabs to find the file you were working on. I find this small bug an extreme annoyance.

This is identical to how Firefox handles tabs, by the way. Closing a tab takes you to the tab you were previously on, not the rightmost tab.

You can change the tab close behavior through Komodo's "Editor->Tabs->When I close the current tab, switch to the most recently viewed tab" preference.

Cheers,
Todd

I had no idea that existed... but why is that even a preference? It should just do the right thing right off the bat. Why would anyone ever want to do the opposite (especially when pretty much every web browser works this way?)

Whilst I agree with you, a lot of existing Komodo developers didn't like the new behavior so it was made into a preference... see:
