I just downloaded the 5.0 beta version for OS X and tried it briefly.
From a quick look, I can not see any significant improvements for my coding needs (Python programming only). However, I have one "minor" annoyance to report that would be enough to prevent me from upgrading.
When displaying the bottom pane, if I want to change the size, I have only a tiny vertical target to aim for (1 or 2 pixel high). This is extremely difficult for me to do. With the 4.4 version, the target is significantly bigger. The same is true for changing the size of the side panels.
I realize that some may view the previous UI as "wasting space" but, for me at least, it was clearly not the case.
Perhaps this could be an item that could be configured by the user.

André,
The point about the splitter for the bottom pane is fair. Mainly the change was made to attempt to follow typical UI styling on the Mac, but I agree that it can be very difficult to grab that splitter.
Interestingly, I don't find it as difficult to grab the (also 1px tall) splitter for the Firebug bottom pane in Firefox 3. We need to look into why that is. It is possible that Komodo's editor pane (using a plugin) is partly to blame here.
Alternatively (or in addition to that) I think putting a grippy in the bottom pane area (say, next to the '(x)' button to close) might be helpful.
I've added http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80756 to track this.
Thanks,
Trent
