ppm on WindowsXP - want to use command line

The new version of ppm (version 4 I believe) puts me into a GUI ( I am running WindowsXP ). Nice but I want to run from the command line and use/see the old PPM> prompt. I am having a whale of a time trying to find, build and install the module Spreadsheet::WriteExcel ( which ActiveState does not provide ?? ) and need to get to the ppm prompt to try an alternative install method. Or if you can give me a way to install the module Spreadsheet::WriteExcel, that would be appreciated as well.
Please advise.

Not sure if this is what your looking for or not but I was having problems getting into the ppm command also, kept opening a gui. What I ended up doing is from a command prompt window in the perl/bin directory run ppm-shell.bat. Worked for me, hope it helps.
