Komodo Edit 5 won't start on windows XP Pro [RESOLVED]

Posted by tanguyr on 2008-11-05 11:49

I have just installed Komodo Edit 5 on my PC (Win XP pro). The installation completed successfully, but i can't launch komodo - from the Start menu, the quick launch icon, the desktop icon, or even from the command line.

I have even tried launching it from the command line using the verbose flag without any luck. In all cases, i don't get an error message, i see the komodo.exe task briefly appear in my task manager, and then it quits. I can launch it via the command line with the "version" and "help" flags, in which case it shows the appropriate info and then quits (as, i guess, it should).

I should mention that i had an older version installed before (4.something), but i removed it via add:remove programs before installing.

I should also mention that i installed to D:\Apps\KomodoEdit instead of C:\Program Files\etc

Anybody else having problems?

Regards,
/t

Hi tanguyr,

There are no known problems with Komodo Edit 5.0.0 startup, at least according to:
http://docs.activestate.com/komodo/5.0/releases/ide.html#knownissues

What type of drive is "D:\", is it a networked drive or still a local hard drive partition?

Thanks,
Todd

What type of drive is "D:\", is it a networked drive or still a local hard drive partition?

It's a partition on my local drive - my main C:\ partition is almost full, so i now put stuff on D:\Apps in stead of the usual C:\Program Files

What's got me stumped is that, even with the verbose flag, the failure is completely silent... komodo.exe pops up in task manager for like two seconds (and i get the hourglass cursor in windows), then just disappears...

Check the Komodo log files, to see if they report anything strange:
http://community.activestate.com/faq/komodo-file-locations#log_files

Note: The verbose argument is ignored in Komodo 5 on Windows (there's a bug on that).

Cheers,
Todd

Thanks for the info, guess i'm guilty of not RTFMing.

Anyways, i didn't see anything in the pystderr.log (0 length file). The pystdout.log file contains the following:

Isn't that a bit short? I don't see anything about HTML or CSS or Javascript, which i would expect to see...

I will try a full uninstall/reinstall and see if that fixes it. Stay posted, and thanks for your help (oh and i will also read the FAQ ;)

Yes, it does look little short.

I'd recommend a complete uninstall/re-install of Komodo, to ensure that is not a problem, and if that fails, try resetting your Komodo profile (by renaming your "KomodoEdit" directory under your profile directory - the location is in the above faq).

Todd

I just tried these same steps and they resolved my issues

Thanks!!

tanguyr | Mon, 2008-11-10 04:05

I did both of these: complete uninstall, then deleted the KomodoEdit profile dir, then reinstall, and it fixed the issue, i am now able to launch the software no problems.

Thanks for your help,

I'm having a similar issue, also on XP Pro, except I am not even seeing the the excecutable in Task Manager and the log files are 0 length.
I'm sure it is something simple that I'm missing, but I can't seem to see it...

If u have problem with running KE 5.2.1 on Win XP u need to update your windows. I was have same problem on laptop but when I try to install at home PC(which have all update) its work perfect. After I upgrade my XP windows on Laptop, KE 5.2.1 is working. So that is one of solution if reinstall or repair don't work... ;)
