How to install a third party pm package using PPM?

Hi there,

I need some help on installing an existing PM written by Andrew Hamm(http://search.cpan.org/src/AHAMM/String-CRC-Cksum-0.03/Cksum.pm). Can someone tell me how to do it?

I tried to using the install pointing to the URL, it did not work. I also downloaded to my C: drive and supplied the pm file name, still not work either.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jason

Here are what I have tried but failed:

ppm> install http://search.cpan.org/src/AHAMM/String-CRC-Cksum-0.03/Cksum.pm
Searching for 'http://search.cpan.org/src/AHAMM/String-CRC-Cksum-0.03/Cksum.pm' returned no results. Try a broader search first.

ppm> install C:\ftp\cksum.pm
Searching for 'C:\ftp\cksum.pm' returned no results. Try a broader search first.

ppm> install C:/ftp/cksum.pm
Searching for 'C:/ftp/cksum.pm' returned no results. Try a broader search first.

ppm> install http://search.cpan.org/src/AHAMM/String-CRC-Cksum-0.03/String::CRC::Cksum
Searching for 'http://search.cpan.org/src/AHAMM/String-CRC-Cksum-0.03/String::CRC::Cksum' returned no results. Try a broader search first.

The files at CPAN are not precompiled. They are source code, and you need to use the "cpan" script that ships with Perl, with a compiler and a make tool, in order to use them.

http://docs.activestate.com/activeperl/5.10/faq/ActivePerl-faq2.html#CPA...

An easier alternative is to use Randy Kobes' great search tool to see if the module you want already exists in one of the several known PPM repositories.
http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/dist
http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/dist/String-CRC-Cksum
In this case, the ActiveState repos for 5.6, 5.8, and 5.10; as well as the trouchelle.com repos for 5.8 and 5.10, all have copies pre-compiled and ready to install.

If you haven't de-activated the default repo, you should be able to install the module using:
ppm> install String-CRC-Cksum
