Komodo install on Solaris 10 x86

Posted by jaspray on 2007-01-18 23:18

I type ./install.sh
and the return is
./INSTALLDIR/lib/python/bin/python: ./INSTALLDIR/lib/python/bin/python2.4: cannot execute

any ideas?

Komodo 3.5 is for Solaris SPARC architecture only. We do not currently support Solaris X86 and have no plans to do so currently. It is worth noting that we are actually dropping the Solaris SPARC platform from Komodo 4.0 due to lack of interest.

Well, very nice to read this on the day we received our licenses for Komodo 4.0 without having been notified about this. Our main platform is Solaris 9 and I really would like that you reconsider this decision.

Or where exactly was it announced that support for Solaris will be dropped for Komodo 4.0?

I was almost ready to get out my credit card an purchase Active Tcl Pro (Tcl Dev Kit + Komodo) until I realized it doesn't support Solaris x86. My application needs to run on Windows, Solaris SPARC and Solaris x86 and possibly Linux. I can do most of my development on Windows and then port it, but sometimes it's those strange OS-dependent bugs that I need to use a good debugging tool on in the native platform.

Please consider supporting Solaris 10 x86 because Sun has finally made it a user-friendly OS. If not, can you direct me to an competitor's Tcl/Tk tools?

Based on your use-case, do you think the remote debugging capabilities of Komodo would suffice? This is typically the case for users looking for Komodo on a platform ( like Solaris ) that isn't typically used as a desktop OS.
