re: cpu usage

This is something that we have been looking into since the Komodo 5.0 release. I think that the CPU usage is too high for a program that is just sitting in the background and should mostly doing nothing.

I say mostly, because there are still tasks that Komodo will perform periodically, such as examing the filesystem for file changes, updating project live folders, trigger file status updates, etc...

On both Linux and Windows, the CPU usage of a background Komodo application is 0-1%, so there is likely something that still needs to be looked into.

There is also the following bug logged about Komodo performance on the Mac, which if you add yourself to the cc-list, you'll receive updates on the bug progress:
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80683

Cheers,
Todd

Actually none of the settings were imported when upgrading. I upgraded by drag'n'drop. Still, the old settings seem to be available in the Komodo folder of Application Support (each version seems to have it's own folder). I would have thought that they would have been imported at the first launch of 5.x.

Known bug on Komodo 5, any version of OS X

Written up at
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=81075

I set up the finder to show all files as well, but even
Firefox won't display dot files -- it's a Mozilla bug
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=262374)
that we have a dependency on.

You can use the open file toolbar to get around the
openFile limitation. But as for the other operations,
like saveAs, and addToProject, you'll need to write
short macros. Good fodder for the Macros/Extensions
site, if anyone's up to it.

Try using:

%(perl) perlfile.pl

as your run command, as that will use your preferenced perl interpreter rather than the first one found on your PATH.

me too - is there a solution to choose perl version used?

Just started a project on OS X 10.5.5. Installed the latest Activestate distribution in the default path under /usr/local. But, as described above, komodo is using the OS X versions of perl instead.

From the command line, I get the correct, new version of perl, but komodo continues to use the old version despite the path changes I've made.

Is there a workaround? Does Komodo 4 have the same issue? I'm currently using the latest version 5.

Thanks!

re: liquibase

I don't know of anyone working with Liquibase, and I'm not even that sure what it does (database design and/or refactoring)?

Were you thinking of creating a UI around the liquibase library in Komodo? There are other database related extensions, such as SQLite Manager which you may be able to glean information from.

Cheers,
re: remote connection timeout

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Komodo remote connection handling is designed to re-connect if there are any failures, but perhaps this re-connecting is not working in the case of a network timeout. I've logged a bug to ensure this gets followed up:
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=81016

The remote files does need some re-working, my hope is to eventually make it work asynchronously, so it does not lock-up the Komodo UI. The network indicators would be a nice enhancement.

I've logged another bug to providing the ability to disconnect any active remote connections here:
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=81017

Cheers,
Two bugs - suggest using a different mapping

It looks like there's a bug with "Complete Word" always being disabled in the Code menu. I've just filed it here:

http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80942

I'm able to use the feature using the default keybinding and a few others I've tried assigning, but it seems to not bind to 'Alt'+'Tab' for some reason. In fact, it doesn't seem possible to bind this combination to any Komodo command on OS X:

http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80943

I'm not sure if OS X or Mozilla reserve this keybinding somehow, but we'll look into it.

In the meantime, I'd suggest mapping this command to another keybinding if the default ones ('F5' or 'Alt'+'Escape') aren't handy for you.

Fixed in 4.4

Sounds like you're running into this bug:

http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=77236

... which was fixed in Komodo 4.4.

You should be able to upgrade to 4.4.1 (it's a free upgrade for you) using "Help|Check for Updates".

OK, my bad

I screwed up here. The Komodo preferences had Safari as default browser. But when using the Add-ons window Komodo would ask which browser to use and suggest Firefox (though Firefox was not on the list of available browsers in the preferences). Now I switched to "Ask when browser is launched the next time", and the links from the Start Page launch is Firefox (no asking...), while the Add-ons window still works the same (it shows the same kind of dialog Firefox does when clicking a mailto: or irc: link).

So the overall behaviour is still a bit strange. This might be related to the fact that Komodo preferences don't keep the paths added to the combo list in Preferences > Web and Browser, because they are not in my /Applications folder (but in /Applications/Navigateurs web).

Well, it's not really important.

Ah, for the project, it's likely because the project did not have a sort order set, if you click on the name tree header the sorting will adjust (A-Z, files/folders, etc...).
