I have a similar problem. I have installed ActivePerl and see the following in my Start Button > Programs ActivePerl 5.10.0 Build 1004 >
Documentation
OLE-Browser
Perl Package Manager

I have only used Perl on Linux at work and want to be able to use it at home on my PC. Is there some package I am missing and need to be able to use write compile and use Perl at home on a Win2k PC?

Thanks,

Dave C

EDIT: I could not use the OLE browser until I figured it was launching Fairefox. I have now set HTML types to IE and enabled the AciveX stuff. Now its still only a browser and I don't know how to run .pl files. I have written a few in notpad but have to change them in file mangler. I may have to buy Text?

Any ideas about how to run Perl in Windows? perl -w example.pl does not work from the 'run' icon in the start menu.

See the FAQ page for the question
"Where can I find the Komodo files?" at
http://community.activestate.com/faq/komodo-file-locations --
I'm looking for pystderr.log, and startup-env.tmp

The best thing to do is to start a ticket at
support@activestate.com, and once you get a reply,
send the files there.

You are correct, Komodo does not offer any plugin for debugging Internet Explorer and there are no current plans for adding this functionality.

Hi. I had the same problem to exchnage complex data structures between perlnet and .net and i solved it with a json interface.
Youl always return or input a json and return it back.

If there is a more efficient way, drop me a line.

fair enough...

OK fair enough.
The way the "tabs" are handled in Komodo in general is probably one of my least favourite aspects of the application.

I also find it annoying that I have to disable an extension to get it off the Projects tab for example - say Qwin or something.

I don't necessarily want all my extensions visible all the time and there should be an easier way to do this without having to restart Komodo all the time.

That's a little OT I know - but somehow still related.

I still love love love Komodo though.

Regards

Hi Caleb,

The find results are still limited to two tabs, neither of which is closable. I believe it's the following bug that needs to be fixed in order to create dynamically allocated find results tabs:

Pierre,

http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80406
et d'autres comme elle.

En outre, Davide et al, ont commencé à le faire certains de la traduction.
S'il vous plaît voir ce post pour plus de détails:
http://trentm.com/blog/archives/2008/07/11/translating-komodo-on-babelzi...

J'espère que nous serons en mesure d'avoir une bonne traduction de Komodo disponible quelque temps après Komodo 5.0 finale est sorti. Peut-être, à l'époque de Komodo 5.1 - qui devrait être au début de 2009.

Pierre,

(It is over 10 years since I have spoken French in school. I'll post again with a Google translated comment.)

Currently there is an effort by a few external Komodo contributors (Davide, Goofy and Pedro) to finish preparing Komodo for localization (in French, Italian, etc.). See for example this bug:
http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=80406
and others like it.

As well, Davide et al, have started doing some of the actual translations.
Please see this post for details:
http://trentm.com/blog/archives/2008/07/11/translating-komodo-on-babelzi...

I hope that we'll be able to have some good Komodo translations available sometime after Komodo 5.0 final is out. Perhaps around the time of Komodo 5.1 -- which should be early in 2009.

re: hard coded breakpoints

The breakpoints should not need to be hard-coded, just the debugger initiation routines (which may cause an initial breakpoint at startup). You need to ensure the dbgp setup is done as early as possible, otherwise there can be parts of the code (frames) that will not be debugged by dbgp/Komodo.

Cheers,
no other way?

Hi Todd,

Thanks for your answer. I was hoping that there is a more elegant solution for this than calling the debugger in every single module...
My approach was:

from dbgp import client
global debugger
debugger = client.backendCmd()
debugger.connect("localhost", 9000)
debugger.dbg.starttrace()

to manually connect to Komodo in the main script and start the trace,
in the module which is involved in closing the gui, I have

global debugger
debugger.dbg.stoptrace()
debugger.atexit()

This kinda works, execution stops at the breakpoints I set in Komodo, but not all debugging functions work, eg step-into...

I'd like to avoid hard-coded breakpoints (client.brk), since the breakpoints from the Komodo IDE are much nicer to handle.

You sure there is no way?

Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

It depends upon how the GUI is started/run. If the GUI is a separate process to your Python script (i.e. the process forks, or launches a separate subprocess), then the dbgp libraries and hooks will need to be initiated in this separate Python process as well. The Python remote debugging documentation will show you how to make the appropriate calls to start the dbgp debugging.

Cheers,
Komodo projects should be using relative paths

Since day one Komodo has been using absolute paths internally,
but any path names saved in project files that exist either
in the same directory as the project file, or are in a subtree
of its directory, should be saved as relative paths.

If not, this is a bug. Can you give an example (email
me if you'd prefer not to put a project file on the forum).
