Never mind; I did some study on the MozDev site, and it shows that .XPIs provide only primitive features for custom file installs anyway. In my case, this makes it very unlikely I would be able to install a 3rd party library included as part of my extension.

Restrictions

From what I read here, an extension cannot package and use any 3rd-party libraries, even if the entry clearly states that it's using such a library? This seems very limiting.

By submitting an Online Entry, entrant warrants that the Online Entry is released under an OSI-approved license (http://www.opensource.org/licenses/), represents that Online Entry is 100% original code by entrant and that use of the Online Entry as described herein will not violate any law or infringe upon the rights of any third party. All Online Entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time ("PDT") on April 1, 2007. In the event the same Online Entry is submitted by more than one Online Entrant, the first Online Entry received will be accepted and all additional duplicate Online Entries will be deemed void.

Finalists will be selected based on the following judging criteria: Usefulness to general users, "coolness" factor to be based solely on the personal bias of the judges, UI quality, and code quality. The judging of Online Entries will be conducted by ActiveState Software Inc. whose decisions are final and binding in all respects relating to the selection of all Finalists. In the event an insufficient number of qualified Online Entries are received that do not meet the minimum standards established by the judges, this Contest may be cancelled. Individuals who visit the Voting URL during the Contest Voting Period will be asked to select their favorites from up to 10 (10) Finalists in each of two (2) categories.
